iPods & Servers

A simple and inexpensive way of having a central music server in your home or business is to use an iPod.

iPods can now be easily integrated into you multi-room AV or home-theatre system. Various options are available from wall-docking stations through to wireless and stand-alone docks.

These devices can store thousands of songs in compressed form with a very simple operating system.

For the audiophiles, music servers are available to supply multiple locations with uncompressed music, even at the same time.

Brands such as Olive can record and replay in native form to deliver hi-fidelity playback, whilst cataloging your library with grace-note information from the internet.

Alternatively, Sonos can play music stored off-site or on an alternate drive through your own wireless network, using sophisticated compression techniques. Both these products have iPhone/iPod applications available, and can be used with a GUI interface on a personal computer.
